Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner is fighting for the first time where Pacquiao defends his welterweight title in Las Vegas on Jan. 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Pacquiao has not been in the United States for over 2 years as he has an eight-figure debt to the IRS. Pacquiao signed with Al Haymon who is expected to handle Pacquiao’s IRS debt. Haymon also has signed Floyd Mayweather and if Pacquiao defeats Broner in January, Pacquiao is expected to fight Mayweather in an exciting rematch.

Pacquiao has won three of his four last fights, with his only loss coming against Jeff Horn in a unanimous decision. Pacquiao outlanded Horn 182-92 landing 32% of his punches while Horn landed just 15%. Most experts believed Pacquiao easily won the fight and it will be interesting to see how the boxing judges score the fight on January 19th. For a few years Pacquiao was ranked as the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world and is an eight-division world champion. Pacquiao is known for his incredible punching power and his willingness to last and fight until the very end.

Broner is making his third return to the welterweight class, the fighting weight where each of his three career losses have come. Broner had looked to be the future of boxing for a few years in the early 2010s but he has had issues with his focus as well as legal troubles. In February of 2018 Broner was arrested on a misdemeanor sexual battery charge and has been charged with battery in the past as well. Broner’s issues outside of the ring has stopped him from becoming an elite boxer. Broner is nicknames the Problem and with his troubles, it is a very accurate name. Broner has drawn comparisons to Floyd Mayweather as he fights defensively and is incredibly quick on his feet.

During Broner’s last fight against Jessie Vargas, he was outstruck 203-194 but he landed 38% of his punches compared to Vargas’s 24%. The fight ended in a split decision. Broner has a lot of power in his punches and it will be interesting to see how his power compares to Pacquiao. Pacquiao and Broner will both be looking to reclaim their spot in the upper echelon of the sport and prove their doubters wrong. Broner has to show all of his critics that he can concentrate and take down one of the greatest boxers in the world.

Pacquiao has a lot to lose as compared to Broner. Pacquiao is looking for a rematch with Mayweather that will have a giant payday for both boxers. Broner could surprise the boxing world and take down Pacquiao. Pacquiao lost to Mayweather and Broner is a very similar boxer to Mayweather so it will be incredibly interesting to see how the pair matches up. Broner is very elusive and accurate and could end up landing a few key punches that could take him to victory. Pacquiao will look to attack Broner’s body and keep his offense at bay.
